Palau is the gateway to the Maddalena Archipelago, but its mainland beaches are already worth the trip. White sands, hidden coves among the rocks of Capo d'Orso and turquoise sea: here are the 6 must-see beaches, sorted by distance from the centre.
Porto Pollo beach
8 km west of Palau, a paradise for windsurfing and kitesurfing thanks to the steady wind across the isthmus. Light sand and shallow water, ideal for families too.
Palau Vecchia beach (La Sciumara)
The closest beach to the centre: 10 minutes on foot. Golden sand and a direct view of La Maddalena island.
Porto Faro beach
A small cove sheltered from the wind, 2 km from the centre. Clear water and rocks perfect for snorkelling.
Cala Capra
Wild cove tucked into the rocks of Capo d'Orso. A short trek leads to some of the clearest water in Gallura.
Cardellino beach
Powder-white sand and turquoise sea 4 km from the centre, toward Capo d'Orso. Less crowded even in August.
Maddalena beaches
Pink Beach, Cala Coticcio, Spiaggia del Cavaliere: reachable for a day trip from Palau's port (ferry every 15 min in summer) or with a boat tour.
