Palau is much more than a launchpad to La Maddalena. Between wind-sculpted granite, protected islands and Gallurese traditions, there's enough to fill a week of holiday. These are the places we recommend to our guests.
Bear Rock (Capo d'Orso)
1–2 hours
Palau's icon: a natural granite sculpture shaped by the wind. A short 15-minute trail leads to a panoramic view over the Maddalena Archipelago.
Palau historic centre
Half a day
Alleys, squares and shops in the heart of town. Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and Via Nazionale come alive in the evening for aperitivo and dinner.
Maddalena Archipelago
Full day
Seven protected islands in a national park: La Maddalena, Caprera, Spargi, Budelli (with its famous Pink Beach), Santa Maria, Razzoli and Santo Stefano. Full-day boat tours from Palau.
Garibaldi Memorial on Caprera
2–3 hours
Giuseppe Garibaldi's house-museum on Caprera Island, linked to La Maddalena by a bridge. A historic guided visit set in the Mediterranean landscape.
Porto Pollo & Isola dei Gabbiani
Half a day
A world-class windsurf and kitesurf spot. Even if you don't surf, it's worth it for the views, seaside drinks and sunsets.
Tuesday market
2 hours
On Tuesday mornings Palau hosts its weekly market: Gallurese specialties, cheese, honey and Sardinian craftwork.
